We were headed home from Zone Conference on a bus when suddenly the whole thing shook and we heard a loud noise. It sounded pretty bad, but looking out the window we only saw a little motorcycle on its side. Another 20 minutes or so passed and we were the only few people still on the bus, so we just got off. We were kinda expecting someone to come tell us to get off haha. But getting off gave us more perspective to what had happened. There was a pretty decently sized car all destroyed and torn apart. It had hit our bus at the exact spot Elder Woodbury and I were sitting. Glad the bus is a tank, and for sure we were blessed. We spent the next hour or two in a city missionaries had never been. Possibly no white people had ever been because that's sure what it felt like. Very mexican feeling place too haha. That's one thing I have been holding in but just can't anymore. Thailand is THE mexico of Asia. It's funny. But Thailand is still the greatest place in the world. It is everything good and fun about mexico, but Buddhist; and has a million more things that make it better. I love Thailand.
I went on a switch off with one of the best people in the world: Elder King. We had the greatest day ever. He is my favorite. We have been in the same district our whole missions including the MTC, except for 3 weeks. I sure hope we end up as companions one day, we work so hard and get so much done together. We served so many people and taught about Christ so much. He was looking through pictures of me before the mission and says i 'look a lot older in a good way' haha what the hack. Says my hair looks more blonde than before. Guess I am changing in every way possible. Missions are amazing.
President had us study some really neat things in Genesis and in Doctrine & Covenants. First thing I thought was lovely was when God said: 'Let us make man in our own image.' He said 'US.' Obviously He was not alone haha. Take that Catholics and whoever believes not in the Godhead. haha. Anywho, President asked us to study The Creation in a certain way. I don't know if I took it different, but he asked us to 'look at the plan Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ used to make the earth.' AFter I read the creation in every book it is mentioned... I don't know if there really was a plan. Would two perfect beings with one mind even need a plan? Anything they do is perfect, they cannot mistake. Anywho, I took something cool out of it. Because we are far from being perfect beings, we need to plan. All of us. But we should plan with the help of those perfect beings who so lovingly want to help us.
Yeeeeah. Thought a lot about how cool it is to have a real desire to serve. My personal purpose as a missionary is from D&C 15:6. That I may bring souls unto Christ, and that I may rest with them in the Kingdom of God. So many missionaries desire the same. It is wonderful. I am learning so much that the purpose is not baptism. It is converting others unto Christ. Sadly, There are many silly missionaries who just want to look good and baptize lots of people and then go home. Without really actually 'converting' people unto Christ. I am here to better people's lives and bring them unto the knowledge of their Savior. Serving a mission for the glory of the missionary is literally what Satan's plan was in the pre-earth life haha. Give all the glory to the Father in everything you do.
He blesses us with everything. Especially the gift of agency. I've thought much on Agency. It truly is a miracle. And is one of the biggest blessings. Imagine not having agency. You can't haha. It's a great thing we have. I love being able to choose to love my Savior, and my family, Coldplay, golf, basketball, everything I love in life.
Had a real neat opportunity to see a Miracle. Elder Woodbury and I went street contacting. We came across this cute young couple with their baby just outside their house. We thought they were elect. That they needed the gospel. But they didn't even question anything. Everything was no. It was so sad. We went away, and Elder Woodbury was really disheartened. Quoting Preach My Gospel: 'the gospel will have a ring to their ears' and saying he has never experienced that once. But I was ready to tell him something amazing that had just happened. When Elder Woodbury pulled out a picture of Jesus Christ, I was watching the baby (as usual, cute lil guy). The baby stared at the picture of Christ in a really special way, and kept staring as Elder Woodbury walked and moved everything. I could tell Jesus Christ was really special to that baby, and I know for fact that he recognized Christ's face. It was really special and very tender to my heart seeing that experience. He lives, I know that my Redeemer lives. I want the best for that lil 8 month old baby, and it is so sad that it has to grow up in a very wicked place. Anywho.
We had Zone Conference, I sang a solo for I love to see the temple, I finally played some half-decent basketball at 5 am, I interviewed with President Johnson who is one of my favorite people ever, I got to see many missionary friends who sure make me happy. It was a really good time.
I turned 19 and pretty much forgot haha. President Johnson called to wish me happy birthday, but when he first called I thought 'oh great another emergency transfer.' Haha. It was a good day though. Sure spoiled myself. Zone Conference was executed well and I am very much motivated and love my mission.
There is always stressful moments in each day for every missionary. But one special thing I have and always think of is: When all is said and done, I get to return home to my family. Miss you a whole lot. Thanks for helping me and making me who I am.
I finished up the week with a switch off with Elder Hancock who is a Zone Leader and also a real good friend of mine. We had a way good time teaching lessons and meeting with a really cool Senior Missionary, Elder Barlow. And then Elder Woodbury and I had a 7 hour bus ride home that went along the boarder of Myanmar and back into KamPhaeng Phet.
Anywho, I'm going to be done too many thoughts haha.
I love you so much (:
i am nothing on my own
got to get that message home
